What are your hours and location?

Daniel is available, by appointment only, Monday thru Friday from 10 am to 6 pm.

CS Book Arts is located in Daniel’s home studio at 1753 Ivyhill Loop N. Columbus, OH 43229

What is your assessment process? How do I get a repair estimate?

The easiest way to get started is to either email (Daniel@cobenickstudios.com) or text (614.260.2021) a handful of photos, from a few different angles, with some focusing on where the most damage is. Please include your name and a note in your correspondence.

CS will usually contact you within 24 hours with a rough estimate of cost and time. If you are comfortable with that estimate then we can make an appointment for a more complete assessment, cost, and best way to proceed.

Then once it is your turn, it usually takes 1 to 4 weeks to complete the job depending on the repair.

CS asks for 50% down, once an estimate is approved, to hold your place in line; with the remainder being due at time of pick up. This will give you potentially several weeks between payments to help budget larger repair investments!

How much does repair / restoration cost?

Much like an old car or house, books are also individuals with their own needs. Daniel will work with you closely to assess the needs of your book and decide the best course of action for your budget.

The average cover replacement, called recasing, is $150, while the studio minimum for any maintenance is $75. There is currently a wait list, but that does not mean you can’t get in line.

Cash, check, Venmo, or Zelle are preferred when possible.

How long does repair / restoration take?

Much like an old car or a house, books also have their own timeline depending to the extent of the service required.

Then once it is your turn it takes usually 1 to 4 weeks to repair the book depending on the repair.

Is repair / restoration the best option for me?

The best answer to this question is a pragmatic one. If the book in question has any sentimental, scholarly, historical, or fiscal value to you then yes! If not, then probably not. If you feel you can replace the book for less than the studio’s $75 minimum then that may be your best option!

What types of books do you repair?

Daniel can repair, restore, and preserve almost any book. Almost, because not every book can or should be saved for a variety of reasons. From your “daily driver” personal bible to well loved cookbooks and albums to vintage collectibles; he has serviced all kinds.

You have a Little Free Library? How cool is that?!

Yes, it is cool! Please feel free to donate or contribute to our library. Especially during the summer months as kids are getting out of school, and could use contributions to their summer reading program! Daniel offers a small discount towards your repair for any book donations!
