Cobenick Studios offers multi-media workshops, where you can explore the history and methods of handmade book arts with artist Daniel Colvin. For more in-depth explanation of residential and mobile workshops or field trips to the studio offered please visit us on the web for the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Artists in Schools programming.

Course Outline:

  • Discussion of artist's work, training and career
  • Ways and quantity of paper used everyday
  • History of papermaking
  • Exploration of plants used to make paper
  • Mixing pulp
  • Forming a sheet of paper or paper art installation
  • Development of paper into artwork, book, or other product

Objectives:

  • Teach students what it is like to be an artist
  • Make students aware of how paper is made, how much we use and how it impacts our environment
  • Tie history to the development of paper and it's gradual spread throughout the world
  • Allow students to try their hand at making paper
  • Show students how to use handmade paper to create a finished work of art
