Megan Burkholder studied painting at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and in Rome, Italy. Megan is an abstract artist, primarily creating encaustic wax paintings combined with charcoal, oil paint and sculptural materials.
Her abstract portfolio includes acrylic and mixed media on wood where she achieves a perceptual depth through alternating layers of thin washes and heavy impasto. Megan is also a figurative painter. Her female nude painting and sculpture are often displayed in conjunction with her abstract as poetic installation. The dramatically stark black and white palette of her figurative work is melodiously juxtaposed next to her chromatic abstracts. In both her abstract and figurative work, Megan creates emotive gestural mark-making, as she embraces painterly drips and “accidental” nuances combined with a masterful sense of balance and placement.
Megan currently lives in Columbus, Ohio.
